Back in Candlemas Hotel

It was supposed to be an out-of-town trip to Potipot, but things happened and some people couldn't go and so we came to Plan B instead - rent a hotel room. It was the same hotel in the sleazy outskirts of Makati where we celebrated some of our previous Imbolcs and Samhains. Why do we come back here? It's cheap, it does the job, and we really have nowhere else to go.

Even though I am a solitary druid (or witch, or whatever) I always look forward to casual Sabbat celebrations like this with friends. Not too academic, not too solemn, and just the right combination of magic and mirth. What I like most of all is that you get a chance to comfortably speak yourself out to other humans (unlike solitary rituals where you virtually speak to ether), and maybe learn about yourself from a different perspective in return.

Lighting a candle for each other, before lighting one for ourselves.

Long time, no see. Darn sabbats, why do they have to be six weeks apart?

The cool amihan breeze and the warmth of the candles combine to create a soothing atmosphere.

The usual photo ops.

Of course, it just wouldn't be right without pizza.

Old Manila Coffee House

I always pass by this little coffee shop on Dela Rosa street whenever I walk to the mall from the gym and I've been curious about it the first time I saw it. The decor is so quaint and homely and it looks so out of place with all the other establishments around the area, which mostly consist of boring-looking condominiums and corporate buildings.

One day after the usual Saturday morning stuff, I finally decided to spend my afternoon here. I ordered   cappuccino and a slice of apple pie, which weren't great but weren't really bad either. The ambiance, however, was just perfect. It was drizzling outside, an old movie was playing on the TV, and I had the place all by myself. I must have spent a few hours just reminiscing and laughing to myself as I lazily sip my lukewarm coffee. It was a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of my corporate weekdays.

Ultimately it was one of those precious "dolce far niente" moments.

Belated Happy Yule

Just received a beautiful Yule greeting card from our ADF Mother Grove. How sweet! (At least it arrived before Imbolc.)

The message inside reads: "Whatever is beautiful, whatever is meaningful, whatever means the most to you...May it be yours this Yule Season and throughout the coming year."

Wow. Blessed be.

Chateau 1771

Met up with an old highschool friend and talked about life at 30 - over wine and tender shanks. We rarely ever see each other so we chose to do some fine dining instead of the usual chit-chat over coffee stuff. Starbucks is for the twenty-somethings's. Everything we ordered - even the waiting food - were great, except for the iced tea, which tasted like Toilet Duck. But then who cares about the iced tea?

Don't ask how I knew the taste of Toilet Duck.

Luscious tomato soup for starters.

Veal Osso Bucco and Shiraz wine, and Slow-Cooked Lamb Shanks.

Tripe dark chocolate mousse. Creamy and dreamy.

Joel. The interior looks nice but I have no idea what theme they were aiming for.
